We designed business cards for Yamagishi Manufacturing, a company based in the Kanazawa and Hokuriku regions that specializes in furniture sales and office design. The company's mission, vision, and concept are "supporting the creation of moments where people can shine through furniture." Rather than designing the cards primarily from a visual perspective, we conducted four workshops with employees centered on the company's mission, vision, and concept (MVC), and designed the cards as one of its short-term outputs. The new business cards will be introduced in 2024. The nine participants in the workshop—seven employees and two members of MiKS—were involved in a brainstorming session titled "Introduction and Divergence." The first session, titled "Introduction and Divergence," involved brainstorming and feedback on the information and usage of existing business cards, and exploring the desired communication through business card exchanges. The second session, titled "Organizing Information and Consideration," explored the company's desired direction while considering MVC from a management perspective. The third session, titled "Introduction of Perspective," involved rough sketching of the business card layout design while guiding the MVC from a different angle. The fourth session was titled "Output of Organized Information," and employees presented summaries of previous sessions, providing an opportunity for them to better organize their information. To realize President Yamagishi's desire for each employee to "have the mindset of an entrepreneur and designer," we arranged the names prominently vertically to instill a sense of personal responsibility. By comprehensively displaying the "L'" brand, which Yamagishi Seisakusho develops, without any distinction in information quality, we hoped that any business would lead to Yamagishi Seisakusho's solutions. The text was printed in white ink on soft black paper, and the design was layered with the high-quality furniture offered by Yamagishi Seisakusho L'INTERNO. Initially, we were asked to create business cards, but after repeated interviews and consultations, we realized that the essence of the solution lay in "design thinking." We proposed a business card design based on a workshop that focused on the production process, providing an opportunity to rethink the very essence of business cards as a business tool.
