Hakuba Village in Nagano Prefecture is home to Japan's most renowned powder snow ski resort, with slopes that were also used for the Nagano Olympics. During the green season, the village attracts mountaineering enthusiasts, while during the snow season, ski and snowboard enthusiasts from around the world visit. Located at the foot of Hakuba Village, a village closely connected to the mountains, we served as design advisors for "Mountain and Beer Shop Kokemomo," a restaurant and bar offering everything from rare items sourced from around the world to local craft beers unique to Hakuba. We assisted with the website, interior design, and photography as a design advisor. Our goal was to convey the kind personalities of the two mountaineering enthusiasts (Mr. Okubo and Mr. Ogata) and the pop aesthetic unique to craft beer culture. We were particularly conscious of avoiding an overly polished design. We felt that the appeal of Mountain and Beer Shop Kokemomo lies in conveying its culture through the personalities of the two founders, so we chose an unfinished, craft-inspired design. We look forward to building this restaurant together with its customers and mountaineers, and becoming a representative craft beer bar in Hakuba Village.
