Mão (mão) is a Portuguese word meaning hand or manual labor. This brand, a new initiative by Kanazawa-based roaster Pessoa Coffee Roasters, develops products that allow viewers to appreciate the art of the hands. At MiKS, we were responsible for the planning and design of various products, including the product design of the coffee bowls, which are the first product from mão (mão). Kutani ware, a traditional craft from Ishikawa Prefecture, is known for its beautiful, intricate paintings, and the white that serves as its canvas is a simple yet elegant and beautiful color. The mão coffee bowl lineup includes one decorated with a coffee tree and one in the original white Kutani ware base. As the store's concept is based on the Portuguese Pessoa, the bowls are available in three deep, beautiful blues that evoke the Portuguese sea. The shape is by no means what you'd call easy to drink from. Inspired by Kanazawa's rich tea culture and manners, the design is deliberately designed to encourage the action of gently cupping the cup with both hands. We hope that its difficult-to-sip shape will encourage you to enjoy a cup of coffee and reflect on the story of the coffee and the thoughts of the maker. You can purchase it via the link above, but as each cup is individually turned on a potter's wheel by Kutani ware artisans, a source of pride for Ishikawa Prefecture, and each one is slightly different in shape, we would prefer you to purchase it in-store.
