Located in Hatchobori, Hiroshima City, the office of Superbriand Co., Ltd. was designed by the architectural firm ArchTank (Yasumasa Hayashi + Shu Yokoo) as a new floor plan for the company's headquarters, which handles employment support and temporary staffing services. Aiming to redefine the working environment in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the office was designed as a place where employment support recipients and staff can work together and naturally interact. The central living-like shared space is characterized by an "agora" (plaza)-like design that encourages spontaneous conversations and collaboration.
For this project, MiKS was responsible for the sign design, which adds color and navigation to the office space. The design concept combined a metallic texture with plastic board (dampane) to harmonize with the adjustable aluminum-framed units that make up the office. The space is divided into four blocks, each with a flag-like signage configuration, creating clear navigation.
Each area, such as the printing booth, huddle booth, and cafe booth, features a symbolic mark, and by using a simple, universal icon design, the navigation is highly visible while blending naturally into the space.
The theme for the photography was to bring together the office space, which is made up of multiple materials and colors, into a single, unified visual. The textures of different materials, such as aluminum frames, plastic boards, wood, and metal, were carefully captured to emphasize the spatial expanse and connection inherent in the architecture itself. Utilizing the amount of light filtering in and reflections, we expressed the harmonious continuity of the space while bringing out the unique textures of the materials.
Through the sign design and photography, we brought out the transparency and functional beauty of the space, visually expressing its role as a modern-day "agora." We hope that it will not only support the daily lives of workers, but also create a pleasant experience for visitors.
